The True Story of a Unemployed College Baseball Player Who Went From Failure to Famous in under 8 Weeks
It was the summer of 2010, early July to be exact.
It had been nearly a year since I started my first site, TrainBaseball.com, where I was trying to sell information products (ebooks, videos, etc) that would teach baseball players how to improve their game.
Even more impressive, I had just graduated, landed a soul-sucking desk job, and was still living in my parent's basement (trying to save up for my upcoming wedding in October).
I had almost decided to stop working on my site, stop wasting time on tactics that were obviously not getting me any results. I had no traffic coming to my site, no email list or subscribers reading my blog posts, and certainly no one had decided to buy any of my products.
And then it happened.
I decided as a last-ditch effort I would start trying to use my fan page in an entirely different way from what I saw most people doing at the time...and that's when the magic happened.
And just under 8 weeks later, here's what happened.
My fan page had gone from 46 to 10,842 fans in those 8 weeks.
The funny thing was, it wasn't that hard.
I had no idea what I was doing when it came to marketing on facebook, and I sure didn't listen to any gurus teaching me what to do. The truth is, no one really knew how to make facebook work before I figured it out.
Like I said, the process was pretty simple...I just needed a way to get people to come to my facebook page, become a fan, subscribe to my email list, and then buy my products.
It seemed like a lot tougher task back then, especially when my grand total in online sales since I had started (which was over 12 months prior) wasn't enough to buy me a cup of coffee.
Anyway, here's the process:
On August 1 I founded a new "facebook app" that allowed me to create what I now call a "fan page squeeze" that I would use to both generate fans AND email subscribers at the same time (using a cool little trick). Next I created 5 pieces of 'mini content' that I would use to promote to my 46 fans, in hopes that they would share them across facebook, bringing me back even more fans.
No fancy blog. No prior email list. No SEO. And no paid ads.
...just a basic fan page and some small pieces of content.
Then The Fans Started Flowing In...
Almost instantly this seemingly dead fan page, with no comments, no likes, and no shares...came to life.
People were sharing my posts and videos with their friends, bringing me new fans faster than I could have ever imagined...
And because of the way I setup my page, I was converting over 53% of my new fans into email subscribers (which I learned later, is where the money is made).[8 weeks later...]
Well, you might be wondering:
"But what about your sales? Did anyone actually buy your stuff after becoming a fan?"
Good question.
The short answer. Yep.
This little fan page system led to not only me making my first dollar online, but my first $1,000 month.
And it kept growing from there.
But enough about me.
This isn't about me, I just wanted you to hear my story so you can see what this can do for you. For your business. For you family. That's what's important.
But, A Lot Has Changed...
Yes, this story is from way back in 2010.
And yes, things have changed a lot since then.
Facebook has changed their algorithms, their advertising policies, their rules about what can and cannot be posted on fan pages. And the list goes on and on...
So a lot of what I did back then, just flat out won't work today. #badnews
Which is why I've made so many tweaks to the way I do things on facebook since then. Most of which are COMPLETELY different from what every other wanna-be facebook marketer is telling you to do.
The truth is, other people teaching this stuff never really did it on their own. They jumped right in, and their first facebook marketing "success" was building a fan page about how to get fans. (lame)
I had to do it in a tiny little niche: baseball.
Just a tad tougher (and more legit) if you ask me.
Anyway, like I said, things are much...much different these days when it comes to building a huge fan page of raving fans.
But the good news is, it's still easy (actually, easier) to do it.
There's just a few more steps involved. (7, to be exact)
This simple little 7-step process is what I now call the 'fan page funnel.' And I've taught this process to over 45,000 people just like you. I'll share some of their stories with you later on.
If this sounds interesting to you, or you think seeing how I setup my fan pages today, so they attract even more raving fans, then just click the button below and enter your email address.
I have a lot more to share with you about building hugely successful (and profitable) fan pages, but I'd rather do so in the privacy of your inbox.
